Dove soap maker Unilever has slammed the door on its final salary pension scheme due to an £680m deficit and, it claims, an unsustainable cost-base. Staff - and former staff - are simply living too long for actuarial and shareholder comfort. Unilever joins a long list of other companies also ditching their final salary schemes including Asda and Tata & Lyle.
