Abu Dhabi National Oil Co. (Adnoc) has awarded a key contract for a fifth polypropylene plant at its Borouge complex, as the state-run firm progresses plans to develop its downstream arm and triple petrochemical output to 14.4 million tons/yr by 2025 (IOD Nov.29’17). Borouge, the petrochemical joint venture of Adnoc and Borealis, awarded Italy’s Tecnimont the engineering, procurement and construction contract for the 480,000 ton/yr plant at Ruwais in western Abu Dhabi (IOD Jul.18’17). The plant will use Borealis’ proprietary Borstar technology and is due to start up in the third quarter of 2021, pushing Borouge’s total polypropylene output to 2.24 million tons/yr, according to a statement.
