摘要

Several epidemiologic studies have demonstrated that higher body mass index (BMI) was inversely associated with lower risk of mortality among patients with established coronary heart disease. The phenomenon is called as obesity-mortality paradox [1,2]. Specifically for patients with angiographic coronary artery disease (CAD), many large-scale registries were carried out to evaluate the effect of BMI on mortality of these CAD cohorts receiving percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) [3]. Furthermore, recent meta-analyses pooled these studies to confirm the relation of BMI to the risk of ischemic events and mortality following PCI [4,5]. As we know, the association between short-term death and BMI was affected not only by the risk of ischemic events but also by the major bleeding events after PCI. In addition, some reports found that the risk of post-PCI bleeding was related to BMI as well [6]. Therefore, we made a meta-analysis to clarify the relationship between the risk of bleeding and BMI following PCI.
