We studied 113 subjects, 32 were CAD-free (controls), and 27 had PCI. When PCI was planned, Valsalva sinus (VS) samples were taken before, and coronary sinus (CS) samples were taken immediately after PCI. Mean OxLDL-VS showed a weak-negative trend (p_(trend) = 0.074) on moving from controls to non-PCI to PCI groups; but did not differ significantly among them. This negative trend was significant for OxLDL-CS (p_(trend) = 0.008). The significant difference of OxLDL-CS (p = 0.020) was attributed to the difference between controls and PCI group; but a non-significant difference existed for PCI use. There was a non-significant difference of "OxLDL (VS minus CS value) between PCI and non-PCI groups. Thus, the mechanical maneuvers applied during PCI may not result in immediate local elevation of OxLDL in the coronary circulation of CAD patients. Coronary atheroma might fix OxLDL, especially if mechanically disrupted by PCI.
