HOUSTON (ICIS)--Demand for US vinyl acetate monomer (VAM) has entered what could be its slowest month since the coronavirus pandemic became more widespread in the western part of the world. Consumption of the product held up for some time amid the bearish economic outlook as a result of the virus, but as more countries implemented lockdown measures in key export destinations, demand has faltered. When stay-at-home measures were first implemented in the US in April, some market players noted an uptick in do-it-yourself (DIY) projects, and accordingly, demand for end-use paints and coatings was stronger.
