US ABS supply likely to remain stable despite shutdown of Trinseo’s Michigan plant due to flooding, dam breaks

HOUSTON (ICIS)--Market participants are monitoring supply of acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) after US producer Trinseo had to shut down its plant in Michigan after two dams collapsed due to heavy rainfall. Trinseo has capacity to produce 95,000 tonnes/year of ABS at the plant, which is just under 15% of total US capacity, according to the ICIS Supply and Demand Database. Trinseo also produces 30,000 tonnes/year of styrene- acrylonitrile (SAN) at the site.
