ICL results reveal phosphate production losses

Israeli phosphate producer ICL has revealed that it shut down its ICL Rotem Zin plant during 3Q due to decreased phosphate rock sales as a result of lower prices. The plant is expected to return to production sometime in 4Q. Sales of phosphate products to external customers for 3Q reached $204mn, compared to $229mn in the same quarter of 2016. Year-to-date sales to external customers for 1Q-3Q reached $671mn, compared to $740mn in the same period of 2016. Sales to internal customers reached $50mn during 3Q, compared to $53mn in 2016. Cumulative internal sales were $139mn, compared to $160mn in 2016. The results reflect a decline in phosphate fertilizer sales and rock quantities sold, partly offset by an increase in phosphoric acid sales.
