Japan's Chugoku reactor restart further delayed

Japanese utility Chugoku Electric Power has further delayed the restart of its sole 820MW Shimane No. 2 nuclear reactor as it conducts extra reinforcement work, extending its use of replacement thermal power fuel. Chugoku now plans to complete the necessary work at the reactor by April 2019, a year later than the previously-targeted April 2018. The company last month agreed with Japan's nuclear regulation authority (NRA) to recognise a longer active fault line beneath the Shimane plant, as part of continuing reactor safety assessment work. This is expected to force Chugoku to revise upwards the size of possible tremors that could hit the reactor and add to the reinforcement work required.
