摘要

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of gynecologists and other health care professionals interested in preventing cervical cancer, genital warts, and other HPV-related diseases.Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection and is the etiologic agent responsible for cervical cancer, genital warts, many anogenital cancers, and most low- and high-grade cervical lesions. Prophylactic vaccines are currently in late stages of clinical testing and studies have demonstrated a promise that prevention of HPV-related disease may soon become a viable option. This supplement will review the epidemiology and natural history of HPV infection and its clinical manifestations and will discuss clinical findings of preventative HPV vaccines in late stages of development. Additionally, strategies for fostering HPV vaccine acceptance will be addressed.
