K. Kawasaki reported that the highest strength-toughness level of SUP 12/SAE9254 is about HRC55-Akvl0J by induction hardening and tempering when the austenite grain size is 12um [1]. Induction treatment wire (phi = 6~14mm) was used as suspention spring etc. after cold forming, and its standard tensile strength and max. tensile strength is 1960Mpa and 2160Mpa, respectively [1]. In the present work, we operated control-rolling to 60Si2CrAM (SAE9254 + little Nb) [2], and achieved much higher strength-plasticity level by simulating the heat treatment of the hot formed spring.
