India’s steel production up in FY 2015, imports surge to record high

India’s steel production increased by 7.9% during fiscal year 2015. Imports, which saw a drastic growth of 71% on a yearly basis, became the major concern for the Indian steel industry. India’s steel production reached 88.1 million t during FY 2015 (April 2014-March 2015), which is a 7.9% increase y-o-y, according to data from Joint Plant Committee (JPC).
