Relationship between aphid population, yield and biochemical constituents in Brassica genotypes

Data are tabulated on aphid (Lipaphis erysimi) population/plant, biochemical constituents (total sugars, total phenols, flavonoids and glucosinolates), yield and yield loss in 9 Brassica genotypes under protected (one application of Metasystox givenat flowering) and unprotected conditions. The aphid population ranged from 0 to 10.3 aphids/10 cm terminal portion under protected conditions and from 5.2 to 67.8 aphids under unprotected conditions. Under unprotected conditions, contents of total sugars, total phenols and flavonoids increased. In contrast, content of glucosinolates was greater under protected conditions. In this study, Purple Mutant, T27 and RK9501 had higher contents of total phenols, flavonoids and glucosinolates, and had low aphidpopulations.
