First annual fall in global steel output for six years

International crude steel production was 1,622.8 Mt last year, a 2.8% decrease on 2014, according tothe World Steel Association. The last year to record a decline was recession-hit 2009.The average capacity utilisation rate in 2015 was 69.7% compared with 73.4% in the previous year.Though China's output fell by 2.3% year-on-year to 803.8 Mt in 2015, its share of global crude steelproduction increased to 49.5% from 49.3% during the 12 months, Worldsteel said.
