摘要

When the United Kingdom's National Institute.for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) stated in 2008 that there was no compelling evidence for use of antibiotic prophylaxis before dental work or invasive procedures for patients at risk of infective endocarditis, prescriptions for the antibiotics decreased by 78.6%. Cardiologists initially were concerned, but in the end, dentists, who prescribed most of the antibiotics, changed their practices based on the evidence, according to NICE, which has the authority to determine which health care services and technologies are covered by the National Health Service.
