Marubeni Gearing Up for Increased Ethylene Trade in Asia

Major trading house Marubeni Corp.aims to expand its ethylene sales in Asia to 800,000-900,000 tons this year,up from over 600,000 tons in 2007,by increasing its sourcing of the product from Iran.The country,whose production of ethylene has been on the rise since 2007,has yet to construct production facilities for ethylene derivatives,such as polyethylene and ethylene glycol.As a result,ethylene trade in the markets located to the east of the Suez Canal is forecast to top 2 mn tons this year,with the likelihood of some ethylene producers in Asia being forced to cut back their operations.
