Can oil market rout take down global economy?

Global equity markets have been jolted by falling oil prices. There are fears that an economic slowdown in China could spread to the rest of the world similar to the financial crisis triggered by Lehman Brothers' bankruptcy because of the subprime mortgage crisis in the US in 2008-2009. Naphtha prices in Singapore, however, are currendy stronger than Brent crude that is in contrast to the negative spread during the financial crisis.
