US airlines are seeing an uptick in profits due to jet fuel prices being at their lowest level in over 12 years. Delta Air Lines Inc., Southwestern Airlines Co., and United Continental Holdings Inc. all reported record adjusted profits last year as the three paid a combined $7.6B less in jet fuel costs due to the rout in crude prices. Jet fuel costs have historically accounted for one-third of airline operating costs.
