Braskem unlikely to sign long-term naphtha contract with Petrobras.

The Brazilian PC producer says it does not plan to renew a long-term naphtha supply contract with Petrobras following the expiration of a six-month supply contract at the end of Feb. Braskem CEO Carlos Fadigas said the ongoing corruption scandal within Petrobras that has led to a massive change in leadership at the company was the main reason behind the supply contract not being resigned. According to Fadigas, "We are working right now with Petrobras to find a solution to the fact that the contract that we have right now expire[d]. I think that at this point, it's unlikely that we'll find a long-term solution due to the fact that Petrobras has a new management." Braskem purchases 10MM mt/y of naphtha to supply its three crackers in Brazil with 70% coming from Petrobras and 30% from imports. All three crackers are integrated with Petrobras refineries.
