The catalan Transplantation Society was founded in 1984, within the Catalan Academy of Medical Sciences, by our pioneers, Drs. Josep Ma Gil-Vernet and Antonio Caralps, and established its highest award to honor the most outstanding persons in the field of transplantation from around the world, whose work has been exceptionally important for the progress and expansion of transplantation. This Gold Medal was specially designed by our most internationally renowned living sculptor, Josep Ma Subi-rachs, who a few years ago culminated his work with an extraordinary set of sculptures for the Gaudi's Sagrada Familia Temple.
