The Chinese steel market showed a sign of recovery in March but from the beginning of April its market prices have been on the decrease again. According to the price index (April 1994=100) surveyed by the China Iron & Steel Association (CISA), the steel price index was 74.27 at the end of the 2nd week of April which was a record low level for these several years. Besides sluggish demand for steel products, a fall in prices of iron ore also becomes an adverse factor to form steel prices.
