Sumitomo Metal Industries, Ltd. (Sumitomo Metals) announced on Mar 26 that it has resumed operation of its No.1 Blast Furnace (internal volume 5,370 cubic meters) in Kashima Steelworks at 9:02am on the same day, which had been suspended since the massive earthquake occurred on Mar 11. Thus, Sumitomo Metals has succeeded in restarting and operating both blast furnaces in Kashima.
