Japan's steel companies plan to produce a total of 27,652,000 tons of crude steel in April-June 2010 or in the first quarter of fiscal 2010 (April 2010-March 2011), up 1,142,000 tons or 4.3% from what they put out a quarter ago, according to a May 6 announcement by the Ministry of Economy, Trade & Industry (METI). The announcement is based on METI's hearings from the nation's various steel companies.
