THE option to allow self-selection of pharmacy medicines, being brought in as part of the new Rules and standards for registered pharmacies, will not come into force before 2014, the General Pharmaceutical Council has revealed. The Rules have yet to be laid before Parliament, and this is not expected to happen this year. Until the Rules have been approved, self-selection will not be permitted and the GPhC cannot enforce the new standards for premises.
