Highest torque density belongs to axial flux brushless PM motors with fluid cooling. DDR brushless PM motors have higher torque density values above 20" OD. Transverse flux motors hold great promise and their torque density values will increase with larger OD products. The hybrid mixed motor technologies will continue to improve as they move from academia to prototype to full production.
