BP standard lists quality care markers

PEOPLE with newly diagnosed hypertension and a 10-year cardiovascular disease risk of 20 per cent or higher being offered statin therapy is one of the markers of quality care listed in a new hypertension standard from the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence. The standard lists a further five measurable markers that indicate quality care, including that people with suspected hypertension are offered ambulatory blood pressure monitoring to confirm their diagnosis and that people with newly diagnosed hypertension receive investigations for target organ damage within one month of diagnosis.
