摘要

I read with interest the latest consultation document sent out by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MLX 375) concerning the review of UK medicines legislation. Although I support the vast majority of legislative changes, I have serious concerns over its failure to address the issue of decriminalisation of dispensing errors. This failure is even more perplexing in the light of the proposal to allow pharmacists to make changes to prescriptions without even attempting to consult the prescribes This I believe makes us even more vulnerable to criminal prosecution, if a change that is made in good faith in the interests of the patient is later considered to be an error. I am sure we can all recall horror stories where interventions have been necessary, but I believe the current system works well and helps build a good relationship with prescribers.
