Scottish guidance on antibiotics for frail elderly

ISSUES that should be considered when prescribing antibiotics for frail elderly patients have been described in new guidance produced by the Scottish Antimicrobial Prescribing Group. "Many of the recommendations will apply to all adult patients but are particularly important in the frail elderly population, who are at increased risk of adverse effects of antimicrobials, healthcare-associated infections and infections due to resistant organisms," the guidance states.
