PRESCRIPTIONS for specials account for only around 1 per cent of all prescriptions, yet they demand disproportionate time and attention from all players in the supply chain. Since the introduction of the new Specials Tariff in England and Wales in November 2011 (PJ 2011:287:487), the Association of Commercial Specials Manufacturers has renamed itself the Association of Pharmaceutical Specials Manufacturers (APSM) in a move designed to reflect better the clinical nature of its members' products and services.
