HYPERTENSIVE patients are almost four times more likely to die from stroke if they are non-adherent in the first two years of antihypertensive therapy, according to new research. The population-based study linked stroke-related outcomes to medicines adherence for 73,527 patients aged 30 years or older in Finland, without pre-existing stroke or cardiovascular disease, who were prescribed antihypertensives between January 1995 and December 2007 {European Heart Journal, 17 July 2013).
