Don't foraet the medicines

THE one thing that never changes about health and social care in Wales is that it is in a constant state of change. Now is no different — we are facing greater integration of services, the forthcoming Social Services and Well Being Bill from the Welsh Government, and an ongoing reconfiguration of local services. So often, however, in plans for health service redesign, the pharmaceutical care element is not given the attention it deserves. Pharmacy should be central to any model of care, as all involve the administration and management of medicines. At this time, when planners are looking to forge greater collaboration between services and health professionals, they need to take particular account of pharmacy and the pivotal role that it can play in integrated healthcare delivery. They must not forget the medicines.
