Whither pharmacy?

I am depressed to note the low status to which pharmacy, especially community pharmacy, has sunk. We are looked down on by GPs, dentists and other healthcare professionals and by some members of the public. This position is not new. I believe that the rot set in when Jesse Boot, a non-pharmacist, allowed his wife to introduce handbags, umbrellas and other non-pharmaceutical items into the pharmacies which were managed by pharmacists. The Timothy Whites & Taylors group continued in this vein.
