SEVEN days of ciprofloxacin is as effective as 14 days for women with acute pyelonephritis, and shorter treatment may help impede antibiotic resistance, conclude the authors of a non-inferiority study published online in The Lancet (21 June 2012). However, they stress that a seven-day course of treatment may be too short for other antimicrobial drugs.
