TWO colecalciferol products that are imported from Germany in substantial quantities for the treatment of vitamin D and calcium deficiencies should be given a UK licence, according to community pharmacist Ash Soni. His call follows a warning from the UK medicines regulator that pharmacists and other healthcare professionals may wish to inform patients that the products, Vigantoletten and Dekristol, contain oils that can trigger allergic reactions. Patients should be warned verbally because the information leaflets that accompany the products are written in German, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency says.
