Denosumab effective in breast cancer patients

Denosumab is more effective than zoledronic acid in delaying or preventing fractures, and the need for radiation, surgery and spinal cord compression in patients with advanced breast cancer that had spread to the bone, a study reveals. The authors of the study, published online in the Journal of Clinical Oncology (8 November 2010), suggest denosumab could represent a future treatment option for breast cancer patients with bone metastases — the drug is not currently licensed for this indication.
