Flogging a dead horse

I greeted the recent announcement of the imminent introduction of the new medicine service with pleasure and excitement in equal measure (PJ, 19 March 2011,p321).A Government investment of ￡5 5m in extended roles for pharmacists that will undoubtedly be of great benefit to patients and save millions for the Treasury is welcome indeed. However, the simultaneous disinvestment in pharmacy of around double that figure via the category-M mechanism fills me with disappointment and utter frustration (ibid, p323).
