Low-dose aspirin found to reduce cancer deaths

Taking low-dose aspirin daily has been found to reduce deaths from a range of cancers, including bowel, lung and brain cancer, and the benefit increases with duration of treatment, an online study in The Lancet (7 December 2010) reports. In eight trials including 25,570 patients, deaths from cancer were reduced by 21 per cent in those taking aspirin. In addition, death rates after five years fell by 34 per cent for all cancers and 54 per cent for gastrointestinal cancers in the aspirin group.
