Decisions about delivery of health services should be evidence based

Decisions about the organisation, management and delivery of health services should be evidence based, and NHS managers and leaders need to be able to apply research evidence in their work, suggested Kieran Walshe, National Institute for Health Research Service Delivery and Organisation (SDO) programme director. Professor Walshe described the NIHR approach to this through the SDO programme, which commissions research to inform NHS managers' and leaders' decision making, with the intention of improving practice in the organisation and delivery of healthcare.
