National Pandemic Flu Service to be withdrawn

The National Pandemic Flu Service (NPFS) in England will be discontinued from 11 February 2010, the Department of Health has told healthcare professionals (see Panel). In a letter to pharmacists sent last week, Keith Ridge, chief pharmaceutical officer for England, explains that levels of swine influenza circulating in the community are currently less than half what they were two weeks before the NPFS went live (PJ Online, 23 July 2010).The service can be restored in seven days should it be needed, he writes.
