Risk of libido loss with hormonal contraception

Hormonal contraception is associated with a greater risk of sexual dysfunction in women than non-hormonal methods, according to a study published online in the Journal of Sexual Medicine (4 May 2010).The study of over 1,000 female medical students replying to an online questionnaire (see Panel) found 32.4 per cent were at risk of sexual dysfunction according to the Female Sexual Function Index (mean total FSFI score 28.6 ±4.5, maximum possible score 36).
