Health department set to provide 2010 budget savings

The Department of Health will contribute half of public sector budget savings in 2010-11 as part of efficiencies in spending, Chancellor of the Exchequer Alistair Darling announced last week.Despite this, money allocated to primary care trusts in December 2008 to commission local health services for 2009-10 and 2010-11 will not be affected and an increase in funding of 5.5 per cent for front-line services in each of these two years is planned.
