THE Bangladeshi garment sector lost 23% of its export market in recent times. Export-oriented mills have been waiting anxiously to know the U.S. government's decision on who may allow Bangladeshi garments into the U.S. tax-free, which will make its textile sector -and particularly specially knit yarn producers - more active. Bangladeshi spinners are purchasing just enough cotton to keep the machines running because of the high price of cotton - it is a hand-to-mouth policy. Buyers are now waiting until China stops buying at the end of November.
