Drug treatment of prehypertension - blood pressure range of 120-130mmHg systolic or 80-89mmHg diastolic - may prevent or postpone development of hypertension,according to a paper published online in The New England Journal of Medicine(www.nejm.org)on 14 March.However,the author of an accompanying editorial says that too many questions remain unanswered to determine whether drug treatment offers benefits over lifestyle modifications.
