Police have arrested the two doctors, who have not been named for legal reasons, at a hospital in Pabianice, near Lodz, in central Poland after an anonymous tip off.The men had been doing complicated surgery to unblock an intestinal artery on an 84-year-old patient. But tests carried out just 25 min after the operation showed that the two men were drunk and prosecutors immediately launched an investigation. The patient, also not named for legal reasons, died the next day. Lodz assistant commissioner of police, Magdalena Zielinska, says: "We have prepared medical documentation so that the prosecutor's office can judge whether they performed the operation when in a state of inebriation."
