US demand rose 11% in 2015; RBOCs were a third of the total

The three regional Bell operating companies (RBOCs) or "baby Bells" were 34% of the 2105 US optical cable market. This percentage was up from 30% in 2014 and 27% in 2013. The ROBCs' percentage of the US market has varied significantly, from a "high" of 63% in 1991, to a "low" of 18% in 1998. The most recent peak was in 2006, when Verizon's FiOS FTTP deployments caused the RBOCs to be 59% of the US market. The recent increase in the RBOC percentage is mainly due to the access network projects of AT&T and CenturyLink.
