After ferrochrome purchasing activity, failed to gather momentum in Europe last month, the expectation was that stainless steel mills would need to replenish their stocks in October: But so far there has been limited evidence of dramatically improved buying activity this month, particularly among southern European buyers. While German stainless producers are doing well and ThyssenKrupp Nirosta continues to operate at above earlier targeted levels - roughly 85% of peak (2007) production - the same cannot be said for their sister operations in Temi, Italy nor at Algeciras in Spain or in South Africa (Columbus).
