摘要

This is a terrific review that summarizes the key consensus statements agreed on at an international consensus conference to review current evidence regarding the pathology, prevention and management of incontinence associated dermatitis. This applies to skin damage caused by exposure to both urine and stool. Although there is a lack of evidence regarding optimal regimens for prevention and treatment of this problem, the following consensus statements were agreed on for effective prevention: 1) gentle cleansing with a no rinse cleaner with a pH range similar to normal skin; 2) moisturization to maintain normal levels of intracellular lipids and the normal barrier function of the skin; and 3) application of a moisture barrier product (petrolatum based, dimethicone based, zinc oxide based or liquid film forming acrylates).
