Re: Urinary flow patterns in infants with distal hypospadias

Editorial Comment: This report convinced me that boys with distal hypospadias void with a flattened curve in many instances. I always thought that this result was due to the caliber of the meatus. However, in this report the meatal caliber ranged from 6Fr to 12Fr and did not correlate with the Qmax or the meatal position.Others have identified decreased flow rates in boys following hypospadias repair. The authors suggest that even before surgical repair the hypospadiac urethra may not be quite as distensible as the normal urethra, which will slow flow rates and dampen the evidence of dyscoordinated flow.
