Should we change our prophylactic antimicrobial regimen for prostate biopsy?

About 5 years ago the AUA Practice Guidelines Committee identified a need for recommendations regarding the use of antimicrobial prophylaxis in association with urological surgery. After review of the published literature the Committee concluded that the available data were insufficient in quality and quantity to perform a formal meta-analysis. Thus, they convened the Urologic Surgery Antimicrobial Prophylaxis Best Practice Policy Panel to review the data and combine their findings with expert opinion to formulate formal recommendations on antimicrobial prophylaxis in urological surgery.
