Differential NOE experiments in DMSO-d_S with pre-saturation of the =N-OH protons of the oxime are described for the simple and straightforward determination of the configuration of ethanone oximes. A characteristic relative NOE of about 1% has been observed for the methyl group of E-isomers, while the Z-isomers gave an undetectable response together with an NOE interaction to the α- or β-hydrogens on the other substituent attached to oxime carbon atom.
