Queensland court asks minister to rule on GVK-Hancock coal project

Queensland’s Land Court said in a judgmentTuesday that it had passed to the Australian state’s miningminister Andrew Cripps the final decision on whether to givethe go-ahead to GVK-Hancock Coal’s plan for a large exportthermal coal mine in the state’s Galilee coal field.The Land Court in its judgment Tuesday said itsrecommendation was that the minister either reject GVKHancock’smining license application for its Alpha project,or grant the license subject to various conditionsincluding the company obtaining licenses relating towater use at its mine site.
